References¶
Consolidated list of the documents cited across this site. Individual pages cite the specific section they draw on; this page records the full citation once.
The 2008 manual set is public
All seven volumes of the 2008 set are marked Publicly Available in ADAMS, so there is no need to hold a copy in this repository — each links straight to its PDF below. Note that the Patch 02 revision is not public; see Patch revisions.
The seven manuals in that package link straight to their PDFs below. Other
accessions on this page are plain text on purpose — per-document URLs do not
resolve for every accession (the Patch 02 revision is one that does not), and
the old webSearch2 interface now redirects to a 404, so a stale link would
be worse than the number. For those, start from
ADAMS Public Documents or
ADAMS Public Search and search the
accession.
The TRACE manuals have no NUREG number — cite the accession
The TRACE V5.0 manuals were never assigned NUREG numbers. Volume 2's title
page carries none, and Volume 1's reads the placeholder NUREG/BR-????.
Cite them by title and ADAMS accession number, as below. NUREG numbers
previously attributed to these manuals on some pages belonged to unrelated
reports and have been corrected.
TRACE code documentation¶
These are the primary references for code behaviour, component input, and modelling options. They describe the code itself and are not specific to any plant or reactor type.
The whole set is published as one ADAMS package, released 27 January 2012 and publicly available:
Final — TRACE V5.0 Manuals (ML120060403)
That page lists every volume with a direct link to its PDF. All seven documents carry a document date of 18 June 2008.
| Document | ADAMS accession | Pages |
|---|---|---|
| TRACE V5.0 Theory Manual, Volume 1: Field Equations, Solution Methods, and Physical Models | ML120060218 | 696 |
| TRACE V5.0 User's Manual, Volume 1: Input Specification | ML120060239 | 636 |
| TRACE V5.0 User's Manual, Volume 2: Modeling Guidelines | ML120060402 | 398 |
| TRACE V5.0 Developmental Assessment Manual — Main Report | ML120060208 | 84 |
| TRACE V5.0 Developmental Assessment Manual, Appendix A: Fundamental Validation Cases | ML120060187 | 106 |
| TRACE V5.0 Developmental Assessment Manual, Appendix B: Separate Effects Tests | ML120060191 | 770 |
| TRACE V5.0 Developmental Assessment Manual, Appendix C: Integral Effects Tests | ML120060172 | 588 |
ADAMS spells two of these titles "Users Guide" rather than User's Manual, and Appendix A and B as "Fundemental" and "Seperate". Search the accession rather than the title.
Patch revisions¶
Every record in the table above carries a document date of 2008-06-18 — they are the original V5.0 release. Patch revisions are filed under their own accessions:
| Document | ADAMS accession | Availability |
|---|---|---|
| TRACE V5.0 Patch 02 User Guide, Volume 2: Modeling Guidelines (2010-08-11) | ML102230226 | Non-Publicly Available |
Patch 02 is not a public document
ML102230226 is marked Non-Publicly Available in ADAMS. It cannot be linked or retrieved from the public site — the accession resolves only through internal ADAMS. Cite it by accession, and do not point external readers at it as though they could open it.
The 2008 Volume 2 at ML120060402 runs to 398 pages; the Patch 02 revision runs to 442 and is 6,294,316 bytes. If a page count or section number does not match what you are reading, check which revision you have — the copy circulating internally is Patch 02, not the public 2008 release.
The Volume 2 copy circulating internally is this Patch 02 revision, generated 2010-06-04 and running to 442 pages — not the 2008 release at ML120060402. Cite whichever revision a page actually depends on, and say which one it is. Draft pre-release versions also exist (ML071720510, ML071000107); do not cite those.
Volume 2 of the User's Manual is organised by TRACE component (BREAK, CHAN, HTSTR, JETP, SEPD, VESSEL and so on) and documents what each component does and how its input arrays are specified. This site is organised by plant system for a given reactor type and covers nodalization, applicability, and validation. The two are complementary: prefer citing Volume 2 for component input behaviour rather than restating it here.
Pin the revision you used
The User's Manual is revised per code patch. When a page depends on behaviour that changed between revisions, cite the revision — for example "V5.0 Patch 2, June 2010" — not just the NUREG number.
Source guidance documents¶
The guidance converted into this site. These are working NRC documents rather
than published NUREGs, and the originals are kept in the repository under
TRACE_ModelingGuidance/ so each page's provenance can be traced.

| TRACE PWR Modeling Guidance, Revision 0 | TRACE_ModelingGuidance/PWR/Guidelines-Rev_0/ |

| Standard Review Plan | NUREG-0800 | see note below |
NUREG-0800 is not in question
NUREG-0800 is the Standard Review Plan, and ADAMS holds a great many
records for it. It is published chapter by chapter, with each section
separately filed and separately revised, so individual records are titled by
section number and subject — the string NUREG-0800 is not what they are
catalogued under. A title search therefore returns nothing while a full-text
search returns many hits. Cite the specific SRP section and revision you rely
on, not the NUREG number alone.
What a zero from title search does and does not mean
Title search matches DocumentTitle only. A zero means the string appears in
no title — not that the document is absent from ADAMS, as NUREG-0800
demonstrates. Treat a zero as "not catalogued under this string" and confirm
with a full-text search before concluding anything stronger.
Corrected: TRAC-BD1 is NUREG/CR-3633, not NUREG/CR-3170
docs/bwr/index.md cited NUREG/CR-3170 as TRAC-BD1 BWR Analysis Code.
ADAMS returns exactly one record for that number and it is "Susceptibility
of Fibrous Insulation Pillows to Debris Formation" (ML19355D738) — a sump
debris study, unrelated to TRAC-BD1. The TRAC-BD1 code report is
NUREG/CR-3633 (ML072550389), with assessment studies in NUREG/CR-4428
(ML093480305). The citation has been repointed.
Replaced: NUREG/IA-0400, \"TRACE Validation Studies\"
docs/bwr/index.md listed this under Validation Reports. No document
resolves to that number — ADAMS title searches returned zero for both the
number and the title, and no published report under it could be found.
NUREG/CR-0400 is not the intended document either: that is the Risk
Assessment Review Group Report (the Lewis Report, September 1978), a review
of WASH-1400 predating TRACE by decades.
The likeliest explanation is that it was never meant as a single document. ADAMS holds 164 records across NUREG/IA-04xx and IA-05xx, and 81 of them carry TRACE in the title — the single most-represented code in that range, ahead of RELAP5 — with the TRACE assessments beginning around IA-0403. The generic title "TRACE Validation Studies" attached to a round number at the start of that range reads as a pointer at that body of work rather than a report name. A series pointer is a reasonable thing to want; a number that resolves to nothing is not the way to write one.
The entry now names the documents that actually hold TRACE validation — the Developmental Assessment Manual, Main Report (ML120060208) and Appendix A, Fundamental Validation Cases (ML120060187) — and directs readers to cite the specific NUREG/IA study they rely on.
Citing in a page¶
Add a ## References section at the end of the page and cite the specific
section, equation, or component you relied on — not just the document:

Published documents are cited, not committed. The repository carries the source
guidance under TRACE_ModelingGuidance/ because those originals exist nowhere
else; published NUREGs are retrievable from ADAMS and belong in this list
instead.
